WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT
Ladies of Chrome and Leather (L.O.C.A.L.) is the Riverside, California area chapter of Women in the Wind (WITW), an international organization for women motorcyclists (all makes and models of motorcycles accepted). We are a very active and enthusiastic chapter. Our members come from all walks of life but we have one common interest in motorcycling. WITW was founded in Toledo, Ohio by Becky Brown in 1979 and has grown to over 1,700 members with chapters in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Cyprus, England, Great Britain, Ireland, Nepal, New Zealand, Nicaragua, and Wales.
MEETINGS: Normally held the third Saturday of the month at Flo's Restaurant in Riverside located at 5620 Van Buren Blvd usually with a group ride following the meeting. However, currently during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are NOT having any meetings and all rides and destinations are planned in accordance with COVID guidelines.
OUR GOAL: Meet other ladies with a common interest in riding, encourage new riders, socialize, have fun, raise money for excellent
causes, learn safety and minor maintenance, better our riding skills, promote a positive image of women riders and RIDE.

THE BEGINNING: Women in the Wind
WITW Founder, Becky Brown, has been riding since the 70's, and her story is similar to the stories of many women. "We would ride on the back with boyfriends or husbands, or some of us were tomboys and rode dirt bikes. But once we got the bug, it was a matter of knowing how to find a bike that fit us and learn the rules of the road".
In 1979, Becky Brown placed an ad in her local newspaper. Soon after, eleven women took their first ride through the scenic byways of the Maumee River. Since those first women in Toledo chose our name, Women in the Wind has expanded to more than 1300 members and spanned the globe across the U.S., Canada, Great Brittain and Australia. The organization now sports over 100 chapters, and while sometimes the chapter locations and member faces change, Women in the Wind keeps its spirit to promote a positive image of women motorcyclists. WITW is open to all motorcycles and 3-wheeled street-legal vehicles.

LADIES OF CHROME & LEATHER CHAPTER
LOCAL Founder, Dee Norman has been riding since 1994. In 1998 after riding with a group of ladies for the filming of a local cable station show "Visiting with Huell Howser" (the episode was called "The Harley Girls") she got the bug to form a ladies only riding group. After researching the internet for various women’s motorcycle groups, and after talking with the WITW founder Becky Brown, she decided to form a chapter in Riverside, Calif. In January 1999, Ladies of Chrome & Leather Chapter ("LOCAL") had its first meeting with 33 ladies attending who all joined the chapter. Now it is 2020 and we're still going strong. From our founder: "I am grateful and feel fortunate to have met some wonderful ladies over the years who all have the same common interest of the love of riding motorcycles."
